In order to write the Alberta Master Electrician exam you must be a Journeyman Electrician for 3 or more years. Each application will be assessed individually.
Master Electrician
4(1) The Administrator may issue or renew a Master Electrician certificate to a person who
(a) holds a trade certificate as an electrician under the Apprenticeship and Industry Training Act,
(b) for a minimum of 3 years has held
(i) a trade certificate as an electrician under the Apprenticeship and Industry Training Act,
(ii) a provincial journeyman electrician certificate of proficiency issued by a province other than Alberta, or
(iii) a restricted master electrician certificate and has been actively engaged in electrical contracting and meets the qualifications for a trade certificate as an electrician under the Apprenticeship and Industry Training Act,
(c) has paid the appropriate fee, and
(d) has attained 75% in the master electrician examination as approved by the Administrator.
Please note: Journeyman Electricians are eligible to write the Alberta Master Electrician exam at their 2.5 year anniversary but will not be considered an Alberta Master Electrician until their 3 years as a Journeyman is up.
