COMPETENCY REVIEW

It is required that you get a Competency Review done before registering for any of our courses.  For each discipline and for each Group and Level there are Application Checklists we use to ensure the applicant has the required qualifications.  These Application Checklists include the required entry qualifications, as well as the additional training that is required for certification as a safety codes officer in each discipline, group and level.  You will find the link to checklists on the menu at left.

To have the Competency Review done:

  • Fill out the Application Form
  • Provide a detailed resume that describes your related education and experience in detail.  Please use the Resume Template if you don't have a professional resume.
  • Include payment in the amount of $75.00.  This fee will be applied to your first certification, if you become certified.
  • Include copies all relevant supporting documentation, such as copies of any diplomas and/or trade certificates.

There are differences in the certification process depending on your entry qualifications as well as which discipline you are in.  The disciplines involved are Pressure Equipment, Elevators, Amusement Rides and Passenger Ropeways. For more information on requirements for your certification, please review the Application Checklist for your discipline.  You will see the link on the left side of this screen.

Once your application for competency review has been submitted and is correct, it will be reviewed by the Administrator of Certification.  If necessary, it will be reviewed by independent third parties working in your discipline.  If the information you provide is complete and correct, you will receive a response by mail within 15 business days.

If you have met the entry requirements set out in the relevant checklist, and if you have completed the required courses, you may apply for standard certification.
