This course is a requirement for an Electrical Group A and B safety codes officer (SCO). It covers statutes, regulations, polices, inspections, electrical permits, investigation procedures and electric equipment approval.

Learning objectives are as follows:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the Electrical Code Regulation, the Permit Regulation, the policies of the Safety Codes Council and their respective roles in the safety system in Alberta.
  • Develop an understanding of regulations and policies that govern the work of an electrical SCO.
  • Develop an understanding of the role of regulations of other disciplines under the Safety Codes Act.
  • Develop an understanding of the relationship between regulations under the Safety Codes Act and regulations under the Apprenticeship and Industry Training Act.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of basic inspection procedures.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the authority for and the purpose of investigations in the electrical discipline.
  • Identify the need and the process for equipment to be approved.
