Code Update Training

Gas Code Update, B 149.1:20 and B 149.2:20

The new Gas Code (B 149.1:20 and B 149.2:20) will come into force in Alberta on February 1, 2021. All Safety Codes Officers certified in Gas Group A are required to complete the Code Update Training before June 1, 2021 and submit a certificate of completion to the Council.

This Code Update Training can be taken with the CSA Group for $99. For SCOs who have yet to purchase the 2020 code books, CSA is offering bundles on their online storefront that include the online code update course when customers purchase the codes:

Once purchased, you will need to successfully complete the course and print your certificate of completion within 90 days. After 90 days, you will lose access to the courses and the ability to print your certificate.

The online course contains two quizzes covering code changes in the new Gas Codes. The pass mark for each quiz is 70%. Once you have successfully passed both quizzes, you will be able to print out a certificate of completion. The certificate can be uploaded on your Council Connect account under the Renewal process as a scan, photograph, or Word document. The course will also count for five continuing education credits.

The code update requirement applies to both active SCOs and inactive SCOs. If your status is inactive but you would like to reinstate, you will be required to complete the code update training prior to reinstating.

Note that the Council will not be offering an in-house option for Code Update Training, as CSA training is available earlier and for a more affordable price than the Council would be able to offer.
