Who We Are

The Safety Codes Council gets its authority from the Safety Codes Act and the Minister of Municipal Affairs to:

• recommend codes and standards to the Minister for the nine disciplines covered under the Act;
• develop and administer a system to accredit municipalities, corporations and agencies to carry out specific activities under the Act;
• develop and administer a program to train, certify and designate Safety Codes Officers;
• administer an appeal process for decisions made in accreditation and certification programs, orders and written notices issued under the Act;
• promote uniform safety standards and principles of barrier free design and access;
• provide support for our partners; and
• carry out activities on behalf of the Minister.

The Safety Codes Council is governed by the Board of Directors which consists of members appointed from experts in the area of governance, finanace, risk management, human resources and business.
