City of Calgary Now Requires Public Safety Plans Before Issuing Building Permits
April 03, 2012
As of May 1st, The City of Calgary will now require building developers to submit a public safety plan before they are awarded building permits. This is required for all buildings in development that are five-stories or higher.
City officials are looking to introduce new bylaws that require building owners to provide regular maintenance to the exterior of their building.
Amendments to the Safety Codes Act are currently being finalized to raise fines from a maximum $15,000 to $100,000, and a fine up to $500,000 for repeated offenders.
