Master electricians in Alberta must renew their certification every year. You can renew online through Council Connect. Once your renewal is processed, you’ll receive a digital ID card and certificate, along with a physical copy by mail.

The 2024 Canadian Electrical Code, Part I (26th Edition), comes into force in Alberta on April 1, 2025.


All master electricians must submit proof of code update training by March 31, 2025 to keep their certification active.

    Log in to your Council Connect dashboard and select the Renew button under My Certifications.

    If a code update is required, upload your certificate.

    Agree to Terms and Conditions

    Agree to the terms and disclose any ethics information if needed.

    Complete Payment

    Review your details, complete payment, and submit.

What is the renewal due date?

Your renewal due date is one year from the date your certification was last issued. This date varies for each master electrician. To find your renewal date, check Council Connect.

Can I renew my certification if I haven't completed code update training yet?

Yes, you can renew your certification without completing code update training. However, when code update training is required, you must complete it to keep your certification active.

Will I receive reminders of my renewal due date?

Yes, you will receive multiple email reminders in the months leading up to your renewal due date.

What happens if I do not renew my certification by the deadline?

Failure to renew by the deadline will result in cancellation of your certification.
