Modifying an Existing Accreditation
Accredited agencies, corporations, and municipalities must obtain the approval of the Administrator of Accreditation to modify their accreditation.
Applications to modify accreditation must be submitted through Council Connect.
In Council Connect, there are 2 applications to modify accreditation: the name change application and the scope change application.
Other applications that are available to existing accredited organizations are:
If you need to change the name associated with your organization, you must submit a name change application through Council Connect.
Name Change
All name change applications must include:
Reasonable Notice: Accredited agencies, corporations, and municipalities must provide the Administrator of Accreditation with reasonable notice of a name change. The application will not be processed without it and could result in a delay.
Draft Quality Management System (QMS): A redlined version of the quality management template published by the Council reflecting the name change. The templates can be found here.
Application Fee: A fee of $100 per discipline covered under the organization’s scope of accreditation will be assessed for this application. For example, an organization accredited in building, electrical, fire, gas, and plumbing, a fee of $500 will be assessed.
If you need to make substantive changes that will affect the jurisdiction of your current accreditation, you will need to apply for a scope change through Council Connect.
Scope Change
A scope change includes any change that:
- Adds or subtracts technical disciplines administered under the accreditation.
- Adds or subtracts locations/facilities.
- Adds or subtracts a municipality participating in a joint accreditation.
- Adds or removes the responsibility to administer all, or parts, of the Alberta Fire Code.
- Adds or removes the responsibility to administer the Alberta Electrical Utility Code.
- Update to municipal boundaries.
What to Submit
Municipalities, corporations, and agencies must include:
Draft QMS
A redlined version of the QMS template published by the Council reflecting the requested changes to the scope of the organization’s accreditation. The templates can be found here.
Application Fee
All scope change applications are assessed at a fee of $150 per discipline covered under the organization’s scope of accreditation. For example, an organization accredited in building, electrical, fire, gas, and plumbing, a fee of $750 will be assessed.
Scope change applications that involve changes to tank management under the fire discipline will not be charged a fee.
Draft Transition Plan — Required of Municipalities and Corporations
Municipalities and corporations must provide a redlined version of the appropriate scope change transition plan template completed with the requisite information.
Transition plan templates are available upon request. More information about transition plans can be found here.
Reasonable Notice (Subtraction of Discipline Only)
Where the change in scope application results in the organization subtracting a technical discipline, reasonable notice must be provided to the Administrator in advance of the change taking place. This advance notice is particularly important for corporations and agencies where the scope change results from a material change in corporate ownership and control.
Failure to do so will delay the application.
