Overview

If you hold an active, equivalent safety codes officer certification in a regulated occupation or field from another jurisdiction, you may be eligible to transfer your certification to Alberta. This transfer is subject to completing any required Alberta-specific training.

Required Training:

  • Mandatory Course: 100179: Introduction to the Safety Codes System in Alberta.
  • Additional Alberta-specific courses may be required depending on the certification being transferred.
If you are applying with a journeyperson, diploma, or degree from another jurisdiction, you will likely follow the standard safety codes officer application. Please see the Become a Safety Codes Officer page for more information.

Apply for Transfer of Certification

To transfer your equivalent certification to Alberta, you must submit an application demonstrating that you meet the criteria for approval.

How to Apply:

The application fee is $50. To apply, log into your Council Connect account and start an Out-of-Province SCO (all disciplines) application through the My Applications tab on your dashboard.

  • Ontario
  • British Columbia

Fees:

  • Application Fee: $50
  • Certification Fee: $75 (valid for three years)

A final decision on your certification application is typically made within five business days of the Council receiving all required documentation.
