Code Update Training FAQs
How do I submit proof I completed my code update training?
- On your Council Connect dashboard, select Renew.
- Select Electrical Code Update 2024 (26th Edition) and upload your proof of completion.
If your certification is due for renewal, you will also be asked to make a payment.
Why do master electricians need code update training?
Under the Certification and Permit Regulation, master electricians must complete training when a new Canadian Electrical Code comes into force to ensure continued competency. This decision is made considering the complexity of code changes and their potential impact on safety in Alberta.
Do I have to do code update training every year/every certification renewal?
No, code update training generally occurs once every code cycle. For the Canadian Electrical Code, this usually means every three years.
I’m certified but not currently working as a master electrician. Do I still need to take code update training?
If you’re not currently working as a master electrician, you may choose to skip the training. Your certificate will become inactive after the code update training deadline on March 31, 2025. You can reinstate your certification later for a $150 fee, but any outstanding training must still be completed.
What happens if I don't submit proof of completion by March 31, 2025?
Your certification will be cancelled immediately. To restore it, you must complete the required code update training and pay a $150 reinstatement fee. Please note that you will also forfeit the remainder of your current renewal period.
