Registering for Exams
To register for an exam:
- Log in to your Council Connect account.
- Go to Courses/Exam in the top menu and select Exams.
- Enter the course/exam ID and click Search.
- Click Individual Registration and select your exam date (seven-day notice required).
- Enter your proctor’s name and number:
- For online proctoring, use:
- Name: Online
- Proctor ID: 111111
- For an approved in-person proctor, enter their name and Council Connect customer ID. (See proctor requirements below.)
- For online proctoring, use:
- Click Add to Cart, proceed to checkout, and submit your order.
- You’ll receive an automatic confirmation email once your request is processed.
Exam Proctoring
All exams must be supervised. You have two supervision options:
Online Proctoring
Online proctoring requires:
- A computer with a camera and a microphone.
- A government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver’s licence, passport).
Pre-Exam Checklist: Complete the Pre-Exam Checklist (PDF) at least 48 hours before your scheduled exam. Failing to prepare may prevent you from writing the exam.
Work computers: If you’re using a work computer, you may need assistance from your IT department to configure settings for the exam.
Mac users: Additional steps may be required for Mac computers.

In-Person Proctoring
If you elect for an in-person proctor, they must fill out and submit the Permanent Proctor Approval Form (PDF) through Council Connect before you register for an exam. You will need their Council Connect customer ID.
Your proctor must:
- Be over 18 years old.
- Not be an immediate family member.
- Not be a co-worker you supervise.
You must take the exam in a suitable environment. See the proctor approval form for suggestions.
About Exams
Are there fees to write an exam?
Course fees include one exam registration and attempt. If unsuccessful, rewrite fees apply.
Are exams online or in person?
Exams are written online through the Council’s secure system. Paper exams are available by request for a $75 fee. Fees are waived for medical accommodations.
Are exams open book?
All exams are open book. You can access permitted course materials and relevant codes/standards. Refer to your course syllabus.
How are exams scheduled?
Exams are self-scheduled. Schedule your exam at least seven days in advance through Council Connect. Course extension fees apply if you schedule your exam for a date past the course end date.
Where can I find my exam results?
You’ll receive an email notification when exam results are available on Council Connect. Results are not disclosed over the phone.
Can I challenge an exam?
If you have enough knowledge to pass a course without completing the coursework, you may challenge the exam.
Register for the exam on Council Connect and pay the challenge fee. The fee includes one attempt; additional attempts require a rewrite fee. You will not have access to course materials.
How do I request a paper exam accommodation?
If you have an accessibility accommodation and require a paper exam, contact us.
Can I retake a failed exam?
Yes, for a fee of $50. There is no limit to how many times you can rewrite an exam. If the rewrite date is beyond the course end date, you must purchase a course extension.
I think there was a grading error in my exam. Can I request a review?
If you believe there was a grading error, request a reread within 30 days of receiving your results.
