The 2025 editions of CSA B149.1 Natural gas and propane installation code and CSA B149.2 Propane storage and handling code will come into force on March 1, 2026. There is no formal code update training or exam requirement.

Gas safety codes officers are responsible for enforcing the 2025 editions of these codes when they come into force. While there is no code update training or exam requirement, all safety codes officers should access resources as needed to ensure they can enforce the codes within their scope of practice.
To support Gas SCOs enforce the new code editions, 3-column comparison documents showing the changes in the 2025 editions have been provided by Alberta Municipal Affairs.
Gas SCOs can use formal and informal learning activities about the 2025 code editions, such as a code changes course from CSA Group or self-study of the 3-column comparison documents below, to help meet their continuing education requirements.
