Entry Qualifications

One of the following:

  • Journeyperson elevator constructor.
  • Professional engineer with four years of relevant experience.

Scope of Practice

Periodic/regular in-service inspections.

Base Competency:

Introduction to the Safety Codes System in Alberta (100179) — $400

Written Communications for Safety Codes Officers (100145) — $325

Elevators, ASME A17.1-2013/CSA B44-13, Core Exam

Technical Training:

Safe Work Practices Course

Non-Destructive Testing Course

Entry Qualifications

One of the following:

  • A journeyperson elevator constructor certificate or recognized equivalent.
  • Two years of experience in maintenance and repair of devices for the applicable groups.
  • Certification as an Elevators Group A Level 1 and Group B Level 1 Safety Codes Officer.
  • Meet the requirements of the Standard Qualifications of Elevator Inspectors (ASMA-QE-1).

Periodic/regular in-service inspections.

Elevator Mentoring

Entry Qualifications

One of the following:

  • A journeyperson elevator constructor certificate or recognized equivalent.
  • Two years of experience in the maintenance and repair of Group D devices.
  • Certification as an Elevators Group A Level 1 and Group B Level 1 Safety Codes Officer.

Scope of Practice

Periodic/regular in-service inspections.

Elevator Mentoring

Entry Qualifications

One of the following:
  • Journeyperson elevator constructor certificate and two years of experience in the construction, maintenance, and repair of Group E devices.
  • Certification as an Elevator Group A and B Level 1 Safety Codes Officer.

Periodic/regular in-service inspections.

Continuing Education
