Certifications

Entry Qualifications

Journeyperson gasfitter certification with five years of relevant experience as a journeyperson gasfitter.

Scope of Practice

  1. Natural gas and propane installations governed by the editions of the CSA B149.1 Natural Gas and Propane Installation Code and CSA B149.2 Propane Storage and Handling Code declared in force in Alberta.
  2. Compressed and liquefied natural gas refueling station installations governed by the editions of the CSA B108.1 Compressed Natural Gas Refueling Stations Installation Code and CSA B108.2 Liquefied Natural Gas Refueling Stations Installation Code declared in force in Alberta.

Required Courses

Base Competency:

Introduction to the Safety Codes System in Alberta (100179) — $400

Written Communications for Safety Codes Officers (100145) — $325

Professional Communication Skills for Safety Codes Officers (100140) — $250

Construction Safety Training System Certificate

 

Technical Training:

Plumbing and Gas 2-Day Seminar (100104) — $400

CSA B149.2:20 Propane Storage and Handling Code (100191) — $410

CSA B149.2:20 Propane Storage and Handling Code (100190) — $410

Entry Qualifications

Note: If you are already certified in Plumbing, you are not eligible for the Combined application.

 

Both of the following:
  • Journeyperson gasfitter certification with five years of relevant experience as a journeyperson gasfitter.
  • Journeyperson plumber certification and five years of relevant work experience as a journeyperson plumber.

Scope of Practice

  1. Natural gas and propane installations governed by the editions of the CSA B149.1 Natural Gas and Propane Installation Code and B149.2 Propane Storage and Handling Code.
  2. Plumbing installations governed by the edition of the National Plumbing Code of Canada declared in force in Alberta.

Continuing Education

All safety codes officers must complete 30 continuing education credits over three years to renew their certification. For discipline-specific continuing education resources, explore the Council’s education resources.
