Overview

The Safety Codes Council offers two student awards for safety codes officers: the Student Award and Indigenous Bursary Program. These programs support aspiring safety codes officers by covering up to 100 percent of the certification cost through course credits. Recipients may also receive other benefits, like professional memberships and professional development opportunities.

Student Award Program

Eligibility Requirement

Applicants must:

  • Be pursuing a new level of safety codes officer certification.
  • Meet the entry qualifications for the discipline and certification level.
  • Reside in Alberta.
  • Not have access to employment-based funding for certification.

Selection Criteria

Applicants are evaluated based on:

  • Financial Need: Demonstrated through the application.
  • Potential Contribution: Shown through previous experience and interests related to the safety codes system.

How to Apply

Submit the online student awards application form by May 31.

Dates to Remember:

  • February 1: Applications open.
  • May 31: Applications deadline (late applications may be considered case-by-case, subject to available funds).
  • June 30: Selections are typically made by this date.

Indigenous Bursary Program

The Indigenous Bursary Program supports aspiring safety codes officers from Indigenous communities in Alberta by helping to remove financial barriers and build capacity.

  • Reside in Alberta.
  • Meet the entry qualifications for the discipline and certification level.

Selection Criteria

Applicants are evaluated based on:

  • Financial Need: Demonstrated through the application.
  • Potential Contribution: Shown through previous experience and interests related to the safety codes system.

Submit the online Indigenous Bursary application form. If you are applying with the support of a community, the community is asked to submit a letter of support.
