Safety codes officer certifications are valid for three years. To keep your certification active, you must complete continuing education credits and submit a renewal application.

What you need to renew

Continuing education credits: 30 credits over three years

Renewal fee: $100 plus GST

When to renew: Up to 90 days before expiry

Processing time: 5-7 business days

What you receive after renewal

→ Digital ID card and certificate (available immediately in Council Connect)

→ Physical ID card (mailed within 2-3 weeks)

How to Renew

Renew your certification through Council Connect. Make sure you have 30 continuing education credits reported before starting your renewal.

Log into Council Connect

1. Log in to Council Connect

Go to your Council Connect dashboard and select the Renew button under My Certifications

2. Report your continuing education credits

Confirm you have 30 continuing education credits reported on your account

3. Agree to terms

Review and agree to the terms and conditions. Disclose any ethics information if required

4. Complete payment

Review your details, pay the $100 renewal fee, and submit

Missed Your Renewal Deadline?

If you miss your renewal deadline, you have options to reinstate your certification. The process and fees depend on how long your certification has been expired.

Grace period (0-90 days past expiry)

What happens: Your certification is suspended. You cannot practice as a safety codes officer until renewed.

How to reinstate: Complete your renewal online through Council Connect

Fee: $100 renewal fee plus $50 late fee

Expired certification (91+ days past expiry)

What happens: Your certification is cancelled. You must apply for reinstatement.

How to reinstate: Submit a reinstatement application and provide proof of 30 continuing education credits

Fee: $200 reinstatement fee
