New 2024 Accessibility Design Guide Released

Nov. 4, 2024 – Alberta Municipal Affairs has released the 2024 Accessibility Design Guide. A companion to the accessibility requirements outlined in section 3.8 of the National Building Code – 2023 Alberta Edition, the guide reflects new standards, as well as best practices that go beyond minimum code requirements. 

The guide provides detailed information and context to ensure that the provincial building code’s accessibility standards are met. It also includes best practices to support the development of more inclusive communities, where all Albertans can move safely and efficiently. 

The 2024 edition of the guide was developed with input from members of the Accessibility Sub-Council of the Safety Codes Council.  

The new edition of the Alberta building code came into force on May 1, 2024.
